How Invisalign Works
Invisalign actually works similarly to metal braces, in that the treatment involves placing a slight amount of pressure on the teeth to guide them into their new positions. Instead of relying on brackets and wires to do this, Invisalign uses a series of plastic clear aligners. A patient simply wears a set of aligners for 22 hours a day for two weeks before progressing to the next set. Once they have worn all of their trays, they should see a beautifully straight smile in the mirror.
Who Can Benefit From Invisalign?
Invisalign was specifically designed for adults and teens who could benefit from orthodontic treatment but don’t want to deal with the look and hassle of braces. As such, it can correct a variety of common issues, such as:
When the teeth are too close together, this not only negatively affects the appearance of the smile, but it also makes them harder to clean. Fixing crowding with Invisalign removes the tiny spaces where plaque and bacteria can become trapped, lowering a person’s risk for cavities.
Gaps Between Teeth
Large, noticeable gaps can be unattractive, plus they can make eating uncomfortable and even cause some people to develop a speech impediment. Invisalign can easily close these spaces so a patient can have a smile that looks as good as it feels.
If the bite isn’t properly aligned, it can place excess pressure on the jaw joint, leading to pain, headaches, and teeth grinding. For patients with a mild overbite, underbite, or crossbite, Invisalign can correct it to stop ongoing discomfort and prevent a litany of future problems (while also helping the smile look more balanced).
Benefits of Invisalign
There are a ton of reasons why millions of patients around the world have chosen Invisalign instead of regular braces, with a few of the most popular being:
- Appearance: Everyone can tell when a person has braces, but Invisalign aligners practically disappear when placed on the teeth. This means a patient doesn’t have to be self-conscious about friends and coworkers noticing their treatment.
- Comfort:Each Invisalign treatment is specially-designed by Dr. Rodgers, and the trays’ smooth plastic sits comfortably against the lips, cheeks, and gums.
- Convenience:Unlike metal braces, Invisalign is removable, meaning a patient can take their trays out whenever they want to eat or brush their teeth.
- Speed:The average treatment time for Invisalign is 12-18 months, while the average for braces is 24-36 months.
Cost of Invisalign
No two Invisalign treatments are the same, so the cost will always differ from patient to patient. The main factor is the number of trays needed to make the changes a patient wants, which largely depends on the types of issues they have and how severe they are. When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Rodgers will discuss every detail of your treatment, including pricing. Then, our team can work with your insurance or organize a payment plan so that the treatment fits easily into your budget.
