Repair Your Damaged Teeth with Dental Crowns in Dunwoody, GA

Crowns offer strong restoration for structurally damaged teeth. Dr. Jeff Rodgers can place a custom crown (also called a “cap”) over an existing tooth to restore its health, function, and appearance. This crown can also be used to support something called a dental bridge to replace a row of missing teeth.

What material do you use to make crowns?

Crowns can be fabricated from precious metal, fine porcelain, or a combination of the two called PFM (porcelain fused to metal). All of these materials are durable and bond well with a tooth's surface. For esthetics, Dr. Rodgers recommends natural-looking porcelain crowns for the front teeth. The back teeth incur more pressure, so they often require PFM or all-metal crowns.

How are crowns placed?

To place crowns, Dr. Rodgers first removes any decay or old filling material. He then takes a mold of the tooth that will receive the crown. Our dental lab fabricates the crown according to his instructions so that it's comfortable and fits well with a patient's bite. At a follow-up appointment, Dr. Rodgers bonds the crown in place and makes adjustments to ensure a secure fit.

For a bridge, crowns will be placed on the teeth adjacent to missing teeth. These crowns will then be bonded with prosthetic teeth that literally bridge the gap between them. They can replace one or multiple missing teeth in a row, and they can be made to be fixed or removable.

How do I care for my crown?

Regular brushing, flossing, and professional teeth cleanings will lengthen the life of your crown (and bridge as well). We recommend investing in a power toothbrush designed to gently remove tartar from tooth restorations like crowns and veneers.
